Do You Dare (To Eat What You Really Want)?
Do You Dare To Eat What You Really Want?
“Dare To Drink Different” is written on the van in front of me while I'm on my way to a meeting. The slogan reminds me of a well-known (soft drink) commercial where you don’t just choose something but make a conscious choice. Automatically, “Dare To EAT Different” automatically forms in my mind...
Solo Diner
After my meeting, I face a small dilemma: should I stay here in the restaurant to eat quietly—and on time—or should I get in the car with a grumbling stomach and cook at home? I study the menu thoroughly, and yes, there are plenty of delicious options. I decide to treat myself to a solo dinner.
Eyes (Not) Bigger Than Stomach
I choose a vegetable dish: roasted cauliflower with a spicy coconut curry and crunchy hazelnuts. A beautiful combination of pure flavors and textures. My body tells me it’s enough, and I’m not tempted by all the other delicious items on the menu. Plus, I’m looking forward to not having to share this (side) dish with anyone!
The Waiter
The handsome, charming waiter subtly raises an eyebrow. Solo dining and just this dish? Surrounded by tables filled with couples, families, and friends, I take that look and any judgments in stride. I fully enjoy my single, perfectly prepared dish! It’s what makes everything right.
Fawaka Dushi?
I looked it up. The slogan on the van turns out to be about beer. Even though I instantly had “Dare To EAT Different” in my mind. Because that’s my question to you: Do you? Even if it’s socially awkward, different, 'difficult', a lot, a little, or unusual? My solo dinner with ginger tea was perfect. On my napkin, it says "Fawaka Dushi?" “Happy!” is my answer. This feels good, and that’s what this game is all about.
